Brief History: Katniss was born in a place called District 12, (one of thirteen districts surrounding the Capital) which is part of a nation called Panem. In this dystopian future, there is battle to the death titled the Hunger Games, which pits a girl and a boy from each district against one another for the entertainment of the Capital. Katniss took the place of her sister, Prim, as a participant (tribute) in the Hunger Games.
